Treasure State Triathlon 2008- Olympic Distance (1500 m swim, 25 mile bike, 6.2 mile run)
Renee has her first Olympic distance triathlon under her belt. Aug 17th was race day, it was sunny, warm and calm in the morning of the race, a perfect day for the Treasure State Triathlon. The water was a little chilly and I would say 90% of the people had wet suites; Renee was in the 10% without one which turned out really well because I heard a number of people saying they were two hot in the water once their bodies warmed up. Now the swim is the event Renee has some struggles with and this was her longest distance in open water so she was a bit nervous. This being the case she decided to start near the edge of the pack at the beginning of the race to avoid being kicked it the face like in her last open water swim. This added a bit of time onto her swim but definitely gave her some more piece of mind. Coming out of the water in 35:07 this put Renee 23 rd overall and 12 or so minutes behind the leader. Not quite what she wanted placement wise but she was happy with her time.
Now Renee was into what is usually her best event; the bike. The transition area was pretty empty because of her slow swim but this makes the transition easy with no one in the way!! Passing 7 ladies on the bike in a time of 1:14:57 gave Renee the 9th best bike time overall and moved her up to 16th place as she came into the run.
Grabbing some liquids just as she finished the bike and transitioned into the run she looked pretty good and passed another lady just out of the transition area. The run went over trails and then onto the road. By this time it was pretty warm so I hoped Renee got enough to drink on the bike to keep here hydrated for the run. Feel pretty good on her run Renee passed another 5 women and ended up in 11th place overall with a run time of 48.41 which was 7th overall in the run times which turned out to be her best event for this triathlon.
So it is pretty easy to see Renee still needs to work on her swim which she is. At the end she was pretty happy with her results and hopes to go to a few swimming courses over the winter and see what next season brings.
